Overview
This structured four-day training programme is designed to provide participants with foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in aesthetic procedures, with a focus on anti-wrinkle and dermal filler treatments. The programme combines self-directed online learning with instructor-led theoretical instruction, live demonstrations, and supervised real-client practice.
A Certificate of Completion and Competence is awarded upon successful completion of the training.
Training Schedule
- Day 1 & 2: Independent Online Learning (Flexible) — Upon enrolment, participants receive access to AIMA’s official online learning portal. The platform includes curated reading materials, structured modules, and instructional videos designed to build a strong foundation in aesthetic principles and procedures. Participants are required to complete all assigned online learning prior to attending the in-person clinical sessions.
- Day 3: Instructor-Led Theory, Demonstrations & Supervised Practice — This day focuses on in-depth theoretical education delivered by qualified trainers. Topics include key clinical concepts, treatment planning, injection techniques, and safety protocols. Live procedural demonstrations provide real-time clinical context and best-practice modelling.
- Day 4: Supervised Clinical Application & Certification — Participants perform cosmetic injectable treatments under direct supervision on live cosmetic models in a controlled clinical environment. Emphasis is placed on technique refinement, patient safety, and clinical confidence. Upon successful completion, participants are awarded a Certificate of Completion and Competence.

Cosmetic Injectables Prescribing & Product Ordering Pathway
Overview
IAHPA, in collaboration with its partner medical practitioners, offers a structured prescribing and product ordering access pathway for experienced, newly trained nurses who wish to commence beginner-level cosmetic injectable practice. This pathway is designed to support safe, compliant, and ethical practice while nurses develop clinical confidence under appropriate medical supervision.
The framework enables eligible nurses to access prescribing and product ordering for basic, non-invasive cosmetic injectable treatments in accordance with Australian healthcare regulations, including AHPRA, TGA, and relevant state health guidelines.
Eligibility Criteria
Access to this pathway is available to nurses who:
- Hold current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner
- Have successfully completed an approved foundational cosmetic injectables training program
- Demonstrate relevant clinical experience and competency
- Agree to practise within defined beginner-level treatment scope
- Commit to practising under ongoing medical supervision and governance
Scope of Prescribing & Ordering Access
Prescribing and product ordering access is limited to basic, foundational cosmetic injectable treatments, as determined by the supervising medical practitioner. This may include:
- Entry-level anti-wrinkle treatments
- Basic dermal filler procedures
- Non-invasive aesthetic treatments deemed appropriate for beginner practitioners
Advanced procedures are excluded unless further training, competency assessment, and medical approval are obtained.
Prescribing & Supervision Structure
Partner Medical Practitioner Oversight
- Clinical oversight and governance
- Patient-specific prescriptions
- Review of treatment plans and indications
- Approval of product selection and quantities
- Ongoing clinical support and escalation pathways
The supervising practitioner retains ultimate responsibility for prescribing decisions and clinical governance.
Ordering Process
- Products are ordered through approved suppliers under the prescribing authority of the partner medical practitioner
- Orders are reviewed and authorised in accordance with clinical indications and treatment plans
- Product usage and stock management are monitored for compliance and traceability
Clinical Compliance & Governance
All participating nurses must:
- Practise strictly within the approved scope of beginner-level treatments
- Maintain detailed and accurate clinical records
- Obtain informed consent prior to treatment
- Follow post-treatment care protocols and escalation procedures
- Adhere to TGA advertising and therapeutic claims regulations
Regular compliance checks and reviews may be conducted as part of ongoing governance.
Complication Management & Escalation
- Immediate access to the supervising medical practitioner for advice or escalation
- Clear protocols for managing adverse events and complications
- Referral pathways for urgent or complex cases
- Documentation and reporting of incidents in line with clinical governance requirements
Ongoing Support & Development

Pharmacology & Product Knowledge
- Understand the pharmacology of anti-wrinkle and dermal filler products.

- Assess facial anatomy to determine safe injection sites and dosing.

Nurses practising in Queensland are not eligible to access this prescribing and ordering structure under IAHPA partner practitioners. Participation is limited to jurisdictions where such arrangements are legally permissible under applicable state or territory legislation.
Eligibility remains subject to ongoing regulatory review, and IAHPA reserves the right to modify availability based on legislative or policy changes.
